I'm reading the Roy Keane autobiography as someone was dishing it out on reddit (hmu for a copy if you want)

It's fucking great tbh

Famous highlight:

"I rang Mark Hughes. Robbie [Savage] wasn't in the Blackburn team and I asked Mark if we could try to arrange a deal. Sparky said: 'Yeah, yeah, he's lost his way here but he could still do a job for you.' Robbie's legs were going a bit but I thought he might come up to us [at Sunderland], with his long hair, and give us a lift - the way Yorkie [Dwight Yorke] had, a big personality in the dressing room.
Sparky gave me permission to give him a call. So I got Robbie's mobile number and rang him. It went to his voicemail: 'Hi, it's Robbie - whazzup!' like the Budweiser ad. I never called him back. I thought: 'I can't be f****** signing that.'"

just finished this. enjoyable, as is all george orwell, but depressing look at british colonialism.

about to start on homage to catalonia. iirc someone recommended it in here and given whats going on there atm thought it would be as good a time as any to give it a read.

do you lot read on Kindles, or physical books?

I've been shit with reading lately so considering getting a kindle, even though they seem like something I should hate.

I'm 90% kindle now. I do most of my reading whilst travelling or away from home so it's convenient. That and I've got an ebook 'wish list' as long as my arm on Amazon so when I finish a book I just download another from the list in an instant. Also the battery lasts forever - I charge about once a month!

My advice: avoid the Kindle 'fire' models and go for a paperwhite or paperwhite 2. Failing that the bog standard (cheapest) kindle is still a good shout if a bit more fiddly to navigate the menus.

Books 4 life. How else am I supposed to impress nerdy babes on the tube by reading Proust.

I always assume anyone with a kindle is reading 50 Shades of Grey or Mein Kampf

I tend to buy my paperbacks cheap from abebooks.co.uk. Only tend to use my e-reader for stuff that's out of copyright.

about half and half. kindle is just so much better for stuff like The Stand, ASOIAF, etc... because fuck lugging a 1000 page book around everywhere for three months... but i do still like the feel of a real book. i so tend to always take physical books on holiday actually

I'm 90% kindle, the backlight and one handed reading are the main sellers for me,just convenient being able to read in any position not worrying about light source or holding the book open / turning pages.
Plus if I'm on holiday I can knock out a book in a day or two and don't want to pack 10 books or be stuck with the hotel "library".

just finished this, disappointing tbh. storylines/characters brought in but then kind of forgotten about. the story was pretty predictable and felt rushed by the end. bit of a pompous writing style too imo, wont bother with anymore of his

just started reading the communist manifesto now lol
