Anyone read Dune? I'm about 40 pages in but finding it pretty boring. Feel like I'm reading Game of Thrones.

finished 'the ministry of fear'. enjoyed, although a lot more introspective/philosophical than 'our man in havana'. wouldnt call it an 'entertainment' either so weird why it's classified as such

Nearly finished this, enjoying it a lot:

A rollicking novel about Nat Love, an African-American cowboy with a famous nickname: Deadwood Dick.
Young Willie is on the run, having fled his small Texas farm when an infamous local landowner murdered his father. A man named Loving takes him in and trains him in the fine arts of shooting, riding, reading, and gardening. When Loving dies, Willie re-christens himself Nat Love in tribute to his mentor, and heads west.

The girl with the dragon tattoo. Only a couple of chapters in.

Supposed to be pretty good if you like crime fiction.

The movie is better although it does confuse you at first as to who the real protagonist is.

the three original books are all brilliant imo. the first is fairly self-contained, but then the second and third ones are basically part 1 and part 2 of a much wider story. don't bother with the fourth book that was co-written after his death... it's ok but quite plodding

@whoever was looking for authors similar to McCarthy a while ago (Malcolm tucker?), I've just started this and his writing is very similar:

Although he's a bit too similar tbh. Feels like a rip off.

Yeah, it was me. I started Twilight by him when looking for a Cormac McCarthy void filler and thought the same, never finished it.

Going away on Wednesday so will give that Paradise Sky a go.

Finished The Last 100 Days by Patrick McGuinness around Easter, been reading The Hunchback Of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo.
First one is a novel set during the final days of communism in Romania. Great story and very informative... the thing that shines through is the black humour the citizens needed to survive the oppression.
Hunchback is pretty nang* is so far, interesting characters but maybe a bit too much waffle regarding Paris.

Haha, yeah, read them a bit young then re-read in my 20's.

If you want more of a similar humour Rob Grant's incompetence is worth a read.
