Literally just started 'The Pillars Of The Earth' by Ken Follett.

I've also got 'The Best Poems Of The English Language' on the go.

Fucking interesting book - looks at organised crime bases all over the world and how they work.

Couldn't beleive how bad Yugoslavia got with the fall of communism.

Currenlty reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
I like reading my own beliefs put more cogently.

Yea but you have to put up with Smug 'i'm better than God', posterboy, Dawkins.
The man is such a cock.

He is a cock. I swear he says he believes in some sort of intelligent design in this:

If you like Catch 22 I'd recommend Slaughterhouse 5 and Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut (RIP)

Still reading The Algebraist by Iain M Banks.  Heavy book but hardgoing.

imo iain m banks needs a good solid assfucking.

In a hate-fucking way or in commendation?

he's just so fucking masculine, his books read like the kind of pictures 13 yr old boys draw.

His SF is so difficult to get into because he almost totally changes the laws of what's possible.  Can be really frustrating trying to get your head round it.  I'm a fan anyway, so I dunno what that makes me  His Culture books are pretty mad, this one isn't part of the whole culture thing though, it's just madly complicated.

Did you mean to say promote instead of condone? To condone the book implies that you don't think its worth reading. Ironic that this is a reading thead huh.

No it doesn't.  It implies that whilst the book may be in some way morally bad, you still support it.  Granted, this doesn't make sense either.

To condone something is to look on something in a negative light. Yes, perhaps if he had been more specific and said for example, 'seriously condoned some of his actions' that would have made sense. However its perfectly clear that he was using the word as if it had a positive meaning - 'decent read so far, seriously condone it.'

It just doesn't make sense, feel free to correct me if you think you know better.

The complete Parkhurst tales  (by Norman parker)-the title pretty much sums it all up.

Chopper  (Mark brandon read)-There are probably loads of books about him now,but this was the first(2002),it is actually quite a good read not all mindless violence....come to think of it,yeah thats pretty much what it is all about.The film is was based so loosely on him that when you have read the book the film could of been about someone else, completely.

I'm not denying that the word condone has multiple meanings. However his use of language suggests that he was aspiring to use the word to positively enforce the book.

For example;

Little Moses had been given a new bike for his birthday. Moses loved his bike, and he was very happy with it.

Instead of;

Little Moses had been given a new bike for his birthday. Moses loved his bike, and he was unhappy with it.

Can you understand how in the context that it was written, the word condone didn't make sense?

He tried to positively advertise the book with a negative word. For example, 'I loved that book, I thought it was shit.'

Forget it man.  What I was saying was that your definition of condone is wrong.  Like i said, his use of it doesn't make any sense anyway but not for the reasons you say.  You're thinking of condemn.  But, frankly, i don't give a shit.

I've started readin 'DMT the spirit molecule' by Rick Strassman M.D

I'm not taking this drug lightly and want to do the right preparation. Some really crazy weird unexplainable shit going down, about people having similar trips where they are in a highly technological advanced place and insectoids are welcoming them saying stuff like 'why don't you come here more often'  and 'it's so good to see you again'.

I GET GOOSEBUMPS WHEN THE BASSLINE THUMPS!

LOL.

This is the thing with dawkins... he is smug and arrogant, but when the people opposed to him produce and reference films like 'Expelled', you can understand why.  It's hard not to be smug and arrogant when you're debating such morons, and maybe it's best to treat them with the disdain they deserve rather than ponce arround acting as if you respect everyone else's beliefs, no matter how stupid they are.

The Man Who Mistook His Wife As A Hat.

It's about a man who mistook his wife as a hat. He kept trying to take her head off and put it on himself, she declined politely everytime, he got fed up but forgot he was fed up.

Good book.

I've only read the first two but I'm enjoying it so far. This is just something to fill the void of Jack Bauer really. Angels and Demons is the only Dan Brown book I haven't read. Don't know whether to bother or not tbh.
