murray did well in the second set, but was dispatched with relative ease considering it was a final

i fancy djokovic to win the french and then hold all four titles. and that will be five GS wins out the last six tournaments i think too, which is absolutely crazy. a feat that not even federer, sampras, borg, etc can match.

and i agree grade, if someone else can beat djokovic, then i fancy federer to beat them. would love fed to sign off with one more wimbledon title before he retires

Murray’s mental strength has really dipped since losing Lendl. In the 2nd and 3rd set yesterday he was arguably playing better tennis than Djokovic. He put him under pressure in pretty much every service game, but when it came to the crucial points he crumbled mentally (getting broken at the end of the 2nd set / massively fucking up the tie break in the 3rd)

Props to Djok. He is a machine. It’s just a shame that Murray can’t match him mentally because he clearly can match him in ability.

agreed on Lendl. what the fuck he's doing with Mauresmo still escapes me.

he's back to his old self these days, constantly chatting shit and shouting. he beats himself half the time imo. but you're right, physically and technically he can definitely match novak on his day.

tbf he's had a lot on his mind what with a highly pregnant wife an his dad collapsing. but yeah, he's his own worst enemy. there was a game in the second set where he was 30-15 up to break djokovic's serve, then he spazzes it into the net 3 times in a row. frustrating.

Murray v Novak tomorrow, last game of the season for the number 1 spot. Surely going to be a classic.

Tie break for the 1st set? Hopefully it goes to the wire and Murray doesn't do his usual meltdown against Djok

Joker is such a humble man, I know he has won it before and ended #1 however that for most sportsmen will make it worse.

Murray is also so much better than he used to be, he used to be a bit of a whiny child even when winning but is very graceful now

Re: RE: Tennis 2016/11/21 11:21:09 (permalink)
Kind of a strange game. Apart from a few long rallies, it felt like Murray never even had to play at his absolute best. So many errors from Djokovic, especially off his backhand.

Murray did well to serve it out at the end after Djok made a bit of a comeback, but again, he was relying mainly on Djok making an error, which normally is never enough to beat the man.

Still, Murray seems so confident now. I think even if Djokovic was in better form he'd still have got the win. The way he beat Raonic on all the really crucial points in that semi just shows how much more composed he is at the moment.

Yeah i'm gonna watch that, only watched a couple of the womens matches so far. I do have a hard time seeing Konta as a Brit considering she didn't move here until she was 15 but it will be a good game regardless. Nadal v Raonic at 8.30 should be good, i'm so desperate for Rafa to beat the boring bastard.

While it was disappointing to see Murray lose after what was probably his best chance at this open in years. It will be good to see two legends battle it out again. Murray and that Serbian robot probably would've achieve what they have without the inspiration and awe from Federer and Nadal

So glad Murray got knocked out, I almost gave up hope after Djokovic's early exit.

Rafa/Federer final would be excellent, I never thought I'd see them two face off in a grand slam final again. Long way to go though, Raonic & Wawrinka will be tough matches for both. Dimitrov/Goffin would have been an easy semi for Rafa years ago.

It would be awesome if they both make it, but as a Fed fan I'd rather it wasn't Nadal who he meets in the final, because barring some miracle, Nadal will play his usual Federer kryptonite gameplan, and Federer's backhand will lose him the match.

Federer has a much better chance against Raonic or Dimitrov than Rafa.

Should be a cracker against Stan in the semi.

This has really been the most interesting tournament I can remember in the last 5 or 6 years - Aus Open definitely equal pegging with Wimbledon for best tournament these days.

This is Raonic's time, that fast surface is tailor made for his game. Nadal will tire in the 3rd set after they split the first two and Milos will take it in 4 sets. He also has the fan support due to greco-canadian heritage vs some knobhead Spainiard who they have seen crush the dreams of Hewitt for a decade.

Federer had better win. I have stated that he is the greatest too many times for his record to be overtaken. Also winning at 35 would make it pretty much indisputable. People were saying he should retire about 5 years ago so his longevity is amazing.
