They say someone involved is a US Open champ, that's a pretty short list in the past decade in men's singles. I'd be shocked if any of the big guns are involved, their prize money and sponsorship deals mean it would be largely pointless unless the money on offer was astronomical. More likely a doubles player or a one off winner like Cilic or Del Potro, potentially.

Wouldn't be surprised if Fed clawed back the 4th set as well to then go on and lose the 5th. Can't see Djok throwing this away. He never does.

Murray v Fed final would be wonderful.

I think Djokovic will take this 4th set and the match. Impressive by Federer to survive until then though.

edit: As I write, he breaks serve. So yes - quite clear now.

he just took the match away from federer so quickly at the end there. amazing performance.

he's clearly the most dominant sportsman in the world at the moment

if he wins this then that's four out of the last five grand slams, right? wouldn't be surprised if he won the french and then held all four titles at once... first time since, er, laver in the 60s?

Inevitable. Federer managed to fight back to make it respectable, it was a humiliation for the first hour.
There is no way Federer beats Djokovic in 5 sets any more, so either he won the first set or his chances of winning the match became minute.
There was a stat that in their 45 matches so far, Federer has lost the first set and then gone on to win the match once.

Can't argue with the level of Djokovic's play these days, he's head and shoulders above the rest.

Must be bloody frustrating for Federer at the moment, if it wasn't for Djokovic he would have 20 slams by now

Yup. Murray would have a pretty big haul as well I think.

Gwarn Murray!! Raonic seems to have a bit of an injury so Murray got a good chance to take this.

Will loose to Novak tho.

People will say the injury is a shame and ruined an even contest, but I reckon the fact that Murray has outlasted him shows his fitness is better. Fitness is such a huge factor at this stage in a big tournament and Murray is clearly superior. You never see Djok or Fed lose a 5-set match because of fitness problems or injuries.

oh yeah, definitely. if you can't play at your absolute peak for four or five hours these days you will never win a major tournament. murray and novak are probably the two fittest, strongest guys in the game these days, so it isn't surprising that they're always there or thereabouts

yeah, it's a fairly standard tactic of novak's to slow the game down and get into his opponent's head. guaranteed he will do it on sunday and murray will fall for it, lose his concentration and get gunned down

The Eurosport player is pretty decent quality, much better than any free stream i can find. Paid £7 for it.

Re: RE: Tennis 2016/01/31 12:14:19 (permalink)
Djokovic didn't even need to play very well by his standards, Murray was a mess out there.
I predict Djokovic will get 4, maybe 5 more slams in the next couple of years before the inevitable post 30 decline.

Federer should hang tough for at least another year, he's still clearly the second best player around on his day, if somebody else can do him a favour and upset Djokovic, Federer is still a chance to win one more slam. He probably would've won this one if it wasn't for Noddy.
