The book is fantastic, the film has nothing to do with it. Real shame imo

I've heard a few bits of the audiobook of World War Z recently and might give that a go.

The book is ace. The film is not.

Johann Johannson has died.. Can't help but feel we've lost a potential GOAT talent there to be fair. The sicario (among many others) soundtrack was absolutely sick.

Just saw that. Damn. RIP

I really enjoyed Sicario and Arrival, his soundtracks added hugely to the atmosphere of both.

Thought it was odd how he was taken off Blade Runner 2049, wonder what happened there.

Wasn't some of his stuff still used? The Sicario soundtrack reminded me of the Blade Runner one at times. I heard a couple of the tracks of his that were rejected and I can see why.

Not sure, but those big foghorn sounds are very him. He isn’t credited though.

From Villeneuve's comments on the subject it seems that his idea for 2049's soundtrack is that it would would hark back and be a continuation of Vangelis's work and Johannson just couldn't accept working within those constraints.

Incidentally between Blade Runner and Dunkirk Hans Zimmer had a fucking outrageous 2017.

The Fly (1986)
First time i have seen this film in many years. grim and quite a sad film. Could almost be a theatre play - as in i didn't notice before as such but nearly the whole film is set in one room. Some effects look ropey and sure it reeks of 80s but in a good way. Classic Cronenberg body horror. And good example of making a remake better than the original.

watched darren aronofsky's mother! the other night and really liked it. it is seriously out there... the closest to a Lynch film I've seen for years. don't want to say anything else. just watch it.

after the shitshow that was Noah, I'm glad he's back making crazy and surreal films. one of the most unique filmakers around these days.

I completely forgot it was him who made Noah. What a stinky poo of a film that is. Ray Winstone lol

ABSOLUTE CLASSIC. 10/10 flawless masterpiece.

I think the gore and body effects hold up pretty nicely. Him picking his teeth and nails off are still properly unsettling and grim.

The arm wrestling scene.

watched 'raw' last night. iirc someone else mentioned it in here recently too. very intense, very french, but excellent.enjoyed it a lot

on a completely different flex, also watched 'deliver us from evil' the other day. as a mindless shock horror film was pretty good imo. big fan of the religious/demons/exorcism angle in those kind of films. had some shades of 'se7en' about it in terms of some of its visual style/vibe. the actual main exorcism at the end was a bit shit & silly but worth a watch overall

Somehow I never watched the Dark Knight or the Dark Knight rises until the other day.

Both were excellent, especially the Dark Knight.

Love 80's Cronenberg. Really need to rewatch Videodrome again.

Awful scene. Her whole character was awful tbh.
I still like the movie though. Bane is brilliant.

went to see 'the shape of water' last night

not the kind of thing i usually go for but it was very good. weird but wonderful and visually beautiful, the whole thing looked like an animation (to me anyway)

Long live the new flesh!
Very strange film.
Was rumours of a remake a few years ago which thankfully seem to have gone away.
