It was a film trying very hard to patch up some of the jumbled story of that awful, nonsensical mess Prometheus. I can't help but think that if Prometheus wasn't so dire, this film wouldn't have ever been made.

Found the whole reveal of how the Aliens were made extremely disappointing and very corny... just makes the whole 20 year mystery of The Engineers irrelevant and even adds a few more plot holes to the ever mounting pile left by Prometheus. Is Scott going to do a whole new movie to explain these new mistakes now? I didn't think it was possible to give less of a shit about the cast but these characters have even less about them than Prometheus!? You literally don't give a shit about anyone.... or even remember one name! Unlike Aliens and Alien.. where you actually feel concerned about the crew and they each have a persona. Also, aliens being born in seconds!? More glaring errors but I can't be bothered. Scott has lost his way massively..

Had a few good moments but overall it is poor and along with Prometheus, taking the entire franchise in a shit direction storywise... especially when you read some of the comics and how brilliant some of the stories were in those and consider what direction Scott could have gone in..

Still, it is much better than Prometheus and slightly better than Alien Resurrection.

Highlight was watching James Franco suffer a horrific and painful death.

thing that pissed me off was how dumb most of the crew were again. Film had similar problems to Prometheus.  Crew did dumb things (no helmets on first landing on an alien planet?) , dialogue was often awful  and made daft decisions again . Story was ropey again and just diminishes lot whole alien mythos for me.

I agree the crew this time were even more forgetable and could not remember a single characters name apart from "Tennessee". Likewise i could not give a shit when anyone got killed.

Its just kind of sad how Ridley Scott still is visually a great director and thought Convenant did look great for most part (some good sets , good violent deaths etc) but he clearly does not give a shit how bad the script or dialogue is in these films.

Yeah it looked stunning like that Prometheus but agree... The script was diabolical...

... does no one read the scripts at all and point out how truly shit most of it is?

I watched the Netflix produced film Small Crimes the other night. The imdb/RT ratings are pretty poor but I enjoyed it. It's pretty bleak though.

When I read all the Prometheus haters say it's crap that just makes me think I'm more likely to like it tbh.

People doing dumb things in horror movie shocker.

Alien Covenant - 6/10

Firstly, I should preface this by saying that the original Alien is my favourite film of all time. I consider it to be a flawless work of art and Ridley Scott's masterpiece. Aliens is also one of my favourite ever films so whenever I hear there is a new film to be added to this franchise, I'm always excited for it.

I also really like Prometheus which I think was a very ambitious project and I was big fan of the direction it was heading.

After avoiding all marketing and trailers for the last 5 months, I finally got to see Covenant in glorious iMax with no knowledge of plot etc...

I was thoroughly entertained throughout but it is generally a bit of a disappointment. Much like Prometheus, this film just constantly throws plot holes and stupidity at you;

There are no memorable human characters. The creatures are on screen too much. Characters are constantly doing and saying ridiculous things. Some of the CGI reminded me of the stop motion figurines used in Alien 3.

There were just too many flaws for me to enjoy it fully.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable 10 page discussion/argument about this. I have a few questions to say the least.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 - 8/10

Didn't think much to the first one when I first saw it so rewatched it on Saturday. My brother said he enjoyed it a lot more second time around. I feel like I'm missing something. Everyone seems to love it. It has its moments but for me, it's very hit and miss.

Went to see Vol 2 yesterday and absolutely loved it. Much much better than the first one. It didn't matter that the plot is just a rip off of Futurama's 'A Bicyclops built for two', this is a character driven film that thrives on the dynamics and interactions between its stars.

One of the funniest films I've seen for a while. Drax/Bautista puts in a comedic performance worthy of awards imo. Note perfect.

Coming back to the futurama thing... Is it just coincidence that the plots are almost identical?

I watched both the new Independence day and Sausage Party at the weekend. I knew they were both going to be rubbish, but dear god they were terrible.

I quite liked Alien. It's hard to look at Danny McBride and not see Kenny Powers though.

Yeah I liked him too.

Don't get me wrong... I thought the film was ok as far as the standard of films today goes... But it is part of a franchise that started off with 2 incredible films and it is impossible not to compare it to that... And when you do that.. All of the flaws and inconsistencies become horrendously apparent

I still stand by my earlier statement of it only being made to try and make some sense of that jumbled mess Prometheus

Amazon have just launched their channels service in the UK with a 30 day trial for them. If you ignore the shitloads of yoga and reality stuff, it looks quite decent, also brings BFI player to the firestick.

His character was basically KP, even had some of his bars lol.

Was the only character I gave a fuck about for real.
