It's deffo one to see at the cinema unless you've got a ridiculous surround set up. There was an interview on Lauren Laverne's radio show with the lads from Portishead as they did the soundtrack and they said that it was minimal but the sound engineers went to a lot of effort with the gunfire, you can tell.

Fantastic Mr Fox - most surprising animation I've watched in years. Was added on Netflix, someone here mentioned it was good and I wanted a Sunday film. First 5 mins I wasn't really sure if I'd like it. Then it quickly started becoming apparent that it was a unique style, i didn't realise it was a Wes Anderson film until more of the cast were revealed and the cinematography started changing once they moved into the tree

Splendid film!

Oh yeah another one I saw at the weekend. Trash. About 3 boys in Brazil who find an important item that can expose corruption. They go on the run and try to bring people to justice. Good feel good film, less violent than say city of god but still has same style to it

Martin sheen and Rooney Mara also in it. Also the guy who plays Pablo Escobar in Narcos (who is Brazilian in real life)

Clearly riding off the back of Deadpool, which I'm all for. Wasn't expecting much when I heard about it, but I really did a lol at the trailer

I liked really room.
Recently I watched (all for the first time)
The Warriors - sick, obvs.
Hard Times - quite good, Charles Bronson as a depression-era bare knuckle boxer. American cinema cut back to the bone.
Midnight Cowboy - quite good, bleak.

operation anthropoid

ww2 thing about the operation to assasinate reinhard heydrich (3rd most senior nazi at the time) in 1942 in prague. i like historical stuff so i enjoyed it but was harrowing in parts, esp when theyre torturing the kid, that was hard to watch. decent performances although the accents of the two main guys, jamie dorran and cilian murphy, were a bit suspect

8/10

one of the best things i've seen for a long time. funny, scary, tense as hell, and pretty thought-provoking to boot. really, really entertaining.

9/10

p.s. avoid the trailers though, makes it look pretty naff

Watched it last night, 100% agree. Some very tense moments and creepy as fuck. Weird seeing Marnie from Girls like that

I'll be seeing Get Out once it's showing up here.

This week I watched Moscow Doesn't Believe in Tears, a melancholy 80's Russian film and captivatingly shit straight-to-video Hologram Man.

I sense this will be relevant to Modus's interests.

True the last trailer was more spoilerish.

I'm looking forward to it as well as dreading it.

Prometheus burnt me badly so im remaining sceptical of this film.

Re: RE: Film reviews 2017/05/03 16:23:02 (permalink)
Midnight Express. I misread a post earlier up which said Midnight Cowboy.

Express is a 70s film about a young traveler who gets caught smuggling hash out of turkey and thrown in a shit prison. Has to deal with the shit justice system too. Quite good. Bleak and has an Apocalypse Now feel to the film in terms of the insanity and the music score is ace.

John hurt plays a great role.

Alien not getting great reviews, mainly 3/5 or 7/10. Still good enough to be worth watching though.
