Potential. Hopefully they can get a better ending out of 'it' this time, the original let it down so badly.

High hopes, cast is great. I hope this is better than seven psychopaths tho. That was very disappointing.

nice, creepy trailer

i'm interested in this new version of IT... shame cary fukunaga left the project though

i wonder where they'll break up the two films, since this one is just the kids and then part two is just the adults? i also wonder whether they've shot that weird orgy scene from the book?!

Meh looks OK.

It might be a personal thing, but to me it just looks too glossy. A good horror is improved with a more low budget kind of aesthetic and feel. Even the scene in the sewer in that trailer everything is so well lit and the colours are so vivid. Need to be grimier and darker, imo.

never read the book the whole way through - but can remember someone telling me about the weird orgy when theyre kids (?) part in the book. I think this film version will probably leave it out as well lol.

out of interest the book ended lot differently from the old TV film version as well didn't it?

Re: RE: Film reviews 2017/03/30 13:28:05 (permalink)
the book is so, SO good. truly one of king's best. about 1400 pages mind...

near the end, the kids defeat the monster as a spider (?) and fall into this weird sort of trance state (?) ... then then decide to solidify their bond by basically all running a train on the main girl lol. it's really strange. i get that the whole thing is an analogy for growing up but it's just so tonally out of place

can't remember how the tv film version ended mate. i think the book ends with quite a trippy 2001-esque sequence where Bill (?) kills the monster in a sort of interdimensional space...? been a few years though

and yes on the two part thing. no word on the casting of the adults yet. i think if part one - and also Dark Tower - are successful, then they could attract some strong a-list talent

they have to duff up the spider then he has a brain battle with a giant turtle.

the book is utterly amazing till right at the end, like every King book in existence

ha! that's it... forgot the turtle turned up

and yeah. stephen king cannot write an ending to save his life. The Stand, The Dark Tower and Under the Dome especially come to mind!

Misery and The Shining are the only half good ones off the top of my head. Carrie too actually tbf

A giant turtle? lol
The spider bit was in the TV film and they killed it and pretty much ended.

Serpico - Great. Often find Pacino a bit annoying but he smashes this role as a straight copper in a corrupt dept.

Fantastic Mr Fox - Had low hopes for this but its decent. Kids seem to love it which gives me hope for their taste in the future.

ghost in the shell - so so. enjoyable enough but nowhere near dark enough. limited character development of major which is pretty frustrating. comparing the human/robot dynamic to ex-machina it's very poorly pitched in the film. action scenes are decent enough, acting and dialogue are generally sub-par. 5/10

The Guardian have been going on about 'whitewashing' of Ghost In The Shell.
Seem to have missed original creator said does not give a fuck and said would cast Scarlett Johnasson himself.

yeah, the final book is pretty disappointing, especially the ultimate 'boss battle.' the very last few pages are brilliant though.

i really liked the first book... then the second and third are a bit hit and miss (but more hit than miss imo)... the fourth is one of the best books i've ever read... fifth is pretty good... sixth and seventh have their moments but are a bit weird and fall flat at times

overall, it's still an excellent series that would've made five sublime books (with a new ending)... over seven books though it all just feels a bit too stretched out

good longish read about Eraserhead-
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/mar/22/david-lynch-eraserhead

"in heaven everything is fine.."

Still one most disturbing films around. Dnno what it is about that film - maybe the random industrial noise soundtrack- or the stark black and white cinematography - but is so damn bleak.

Its like an endurance test watching Eraserhead. Some ppl find it funny i always found it terrifying.

Was going to see this yesterday, but ended up seeing a documentary about the label that signed Mogwai/arab strap/delgados/Bis etc.

Saw free fire tonight. Quite enjoyed it, good cast.
