A promo clip for Alien Covenant.:-

Think its a promo rather than an actual portion from the film. Doesn't look great tbh.

Ugh, that is really shit.

The atmosphere , dialogue , characters seem to be of Prometheus levels again (ie-crap).

Berlin Calling

A good raving/DJ film. A German better version of "It's all gone Pete Tong" with less cheese and more realistic drug use. More dirty techno than the Ibiza bollocks and some good characters. Caught it on German Netflix so not sure if it's available here

This whole Alien Covenant prologue thing is intriguing to me. Prologue's like this are released as a screen test right? They changed Bane's voice because that one didn't test well. This hasn't been well received at all so far.

With the release date so close it seems a strange time to release it. Re shoots could be needed.

Aidan Moffat's (Arab Strap) docu-film is on iPlayer at the moment, well worth a watch.

Watched 3 films on the plane

Arrival - excellent. Really nice to see an alien invasion film take a very different approach. Lovely plot and got me right in the feels at the end 9/10

War Dogs - passed a few hours but instantly forgettable. So much so that I couldn't even remember I had watched it for 30 mins. From the guy that did the Hangover and it just feels like a serious version of it. 5/10

Hell or high water - really good to see an old cops and robbers type film. Reminded me of heat in some respects. Jeff bridges was excellent 7/10

Gutted about Paxton. Effortlessly cool character. Picked his projects well.

Nah.
Anyone else get the feeling that some of these Black nominations/winners are reactionary to last years #OscarsSoWhite controversy? Positive bias.

Prisoners - 8/10

Finally got round to watching this and loved it. It's a forensic abduction film with Jake Gylennhal playing the lead detective. Also starring Paul Dano, Hugh Jackman & Viola Davis.

It reminded me slightly of Gone Girl and Zodiac. There's a strong sense of mystery throughout and as the plot unfolds there are plenty of twists and turns.

How on earth has Roger Deakins never won an Oscar? The cinematography on this film is just incredible. Even better than Sicario.

OT...

I watched this on blu-ray through a PS3 and it was noticeably better picture quality than Netflix 4k. Netflix 4k is just a big con surely? I can't see any difference.

Yeah I'm going to avoid that trailer. I don't need a trailer to convince me to go and see an Alien film.

Empire posted that trailer with a spoiler warning.

The prologue to Dunkirk has really stayed with me. It looks like there is incredible attention to detail on those sets. Can't wait!

the new Alien film actually reminds me of some other sci-fi film about a colonization ship going to a new planet to start a new Earth type colony.

Can't think of name of it . Was a fairly low budget horror and came out about 8 years ago or so. Some passengers on ship went crazy or something. Anyone know the name of film im on about?

Elysium,  Moon, Red Planet,  Pandorum? all more or less about colonizing space.

Anyone see the original Terminator was on tv the other night?...fuck i forgot how good it is, still not as good as Judgement Day but such a fucking classic. Surely those two films are up there with the best movies ever.

The bit where the terminator is in full robot skin at the end made me laugh though, the effects look so bad these days. Mental to think that once looked incredible. T2s effects were absolutely unreal though.

Terminator >>> T2 judgement day imo

Hacksaw Ridge - meh, don't see what the fuss is about. Typical American war movie with shit overacting. Why do people think vince Vaughn is capable of acting? 4/10

The founder - pretty good watch but nothing amazing. Michael Keaton is good and it's interesting to know the back story, but I think I could've just read it on Wikipedia and come away without having missed anything 6/10

Agree with Sy, all about the brooding menace in the first one. Same with alien/aliens.

Off for a curry and to see goodfella's at the cinema with the lads tonight.
