meh, i still think it looks like a solid 7.5/10 from the trailer, i'll probably watch it on dvd. Colin Farrell is one of my favourite actors. I find this strange:

quote:

It desperately wants to be its own thing, but then it gives us a line or even a setpiece that recalls (pun intended) the original, and it does so with the obvious intent of reminding the audience of it.

What else do they want from a remake? If it had nothing that harks back to the original film then he'd no doubt complain about that, too. It seems like with all these remakes recently people don't know what they want; if its mostly a new story that tries to do its own thing then 'its pointless calling it a remake', if it follows the original pretty closely then 'why not just watch the original'

He keeps complaining about hows its lost its humour, but isn't it the point of a remake that the director puts his own perspective on a story?

it was supposed to be a re-filming of the original short-story though, not just a remake of the 1990 movie...that's why it should be a bit different. comes as no surprise to me that len wiseman just doesn't have any of his own ideas though

fuck a remake

The stoning of soraya M.

An Iranian film about a woman wrongly accused of adultery and how the whole village turns against her. Pretty brutal and bleak especially considering stoning still goes on.

Probably not one you'd recommend to your mum. Not enjoyable but important to watch.

TDKR - 10

Bane is one of the best bad guys ever, in the Arkham games he was a bit of a whiney fass but Nolan nailed it

I actually find it depressing that Batman will probably never be as good again now, they should do all they can to get Nolan to.direct another trilogy.

Pretty much agree with all of your post but I'd say TDK and TDKR were at least equal if not in favour of TDK. I'm not sure what the point is of them carrying on straight away if Nolan's not involved. The rumours of trying to tie it in with The Justice League as well...that's got gargantuan fail written all over it. Either they continue with Nolan and have Bale bringing Robin/Nightwing in or they knock it on the head. It's pointless starting again and it's pointless attempting to have a new Batman suddenly appear with a new director...last time they did that we ended up with Val Kilmer and George Clooney LOL.

This has nothing to do with what the viewers want. This statement actually highlights why remakes are so pointless. Why copy a film so closely if the original is still fresh, relevant and enjoyable... and going the other way, why slap the name of the original film onto a 'remake' if it's gone so far from the original that it's a completely different film.

People aren't pissed of with remakes because they don't deliver what they want. They're pissed off because they're completely unnecessary in the first place, for exactly the reasons you have mentioned.

Perfect

High Plains Drifter: Big recommendation from a few pages back. The rape scene was really unexpected, felt it was very similar to Once Upon a Time in New York. The Marshall being bull-wiped to death in front of the town was another unexpected moment. Very dark, downbeat film making from Clint. A film that Sergio Leone would be proud of. Any other western films that are dark and brooding like High Plains Drifter?. 9/10

Ted

Seth MacFarlane has obviously thought up of 4 or 5 snigger moments involving a teddy bear that is based around the same style of humour as family guy/american dad, and tied them in to a painfully predictable plot with poor acted/scripted dialogue. This film (as well as the later seasons of family guy) is proof that MacFarlane has fallen hard in quality of humour, past the point of return.

4/10

I think it was around the time when they started using painfully long scenes in order to generate laughs. The sore knee thing was funny at first, but when they aired 2-3 minutes of that singer for no apparent reason, I lost the faith. The peter/chicken fight scenes started to grate around that time as well if I remember correctly.
