can't freaking wait to see what Nolan is going to do next
Hopefully some more original ideas rather than getting sucked into doing another huge franchise
I think they'll let him do whatever the fuck he likes with the amount of money he's brought in. Can't wait, definitely my favourite director at the moment.
Far and away the best big Hollywood director around these days for sure. Like Mark Kermode says in that review he did of Dark Knight Rises, the fact that Nolan makes big blockbusters with smart / deep plots should be applauded, they're a rarity.
Memento is still my favourite of all I think, stroke of genius that film. Even if it does lose its impact the more you watch it, that first time I saw it I think it blew me away more than any other film.
batman begins, the prestige, dark knight, inception, dark knight rises is an unprecedented run of superb, intelligent, big budget films
memento is obviously phenomenal as well
He's an exceptional blockbuster director.. but I don't actually rate any of his bigger films. I think they're all good, but overrated considering how much people bang on about all of the above. Especially Inception.
Memento and Insomnia are much better films that all of his blockbusters imo. Got to give him credit for doing fairly original/semi-intelligent blockbusters though.
i love The Prestige...one of those rare adaptations that actually gives the film it's own entity. book and film are both great, but in different ways. that's one thing i love about nolan actually, he really understands all the mechanics of cinema, and how to use photography, acting, music, editing, etc, to tell the story the right way for the medium
i guess i can see why Inception might rub people the wrong way but personally i thought it was brilliant. intelligent, original, endlessly-rewatchable - exactly the kind of film i want $200million budgets dedicated to
Dark Knight Rises is pretty fucking sick. I can't decide whether I prefer it to the second film but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Bane is 'ard. Michael Caine's performance is excellent as well, really gives depth to Alfred's character across the three films.
just watched snowtown. i can't remember the last time i wanted to turn a film off because it made me feel so uncomfortable, this film did it to me twice.
the acting by the two main characters is excellent, this film really felt real. cinematography and sound are both spot on, really add to the dark, menacing and downright chilling atmosphere.
some people have suggested you need to be familiar with the subject before watching it as there are quite a few plot holes, but i wasn't and still found it perfectly easy to follow what was happening.
if you like it dark then you should watch this - 8/10

Yeah, I rate all of Nolan's big films highly, and his earlier ones I've seen although they're quite different. Looking forward to seeing what he does next.

a trailer that's almost 6 minutes long? what the fuck?
i'm no fan of the book anyway but that looks like complete pretentious drivel
some of the visuals are stunning, but the futuristic elements are only a 6th of the narrative. that story and the even-more-futuristic, post-apocalyptic story are the mot interesting parts but even they seem so worthy and desperate for you to feel the gravity and the emotion that i couldn't help roll my eyes
i've said it before and i'll say it again - it's unfilmable
sure, but it is 6 minutes long and you can definitely tell the tone of the performances...
there's no way the film can be less than 3 and a half hours, unless they cut out a hell of a lot and risk making it even less sensical than it already is!
seriously, this project has disaster written all over it
a huge budget film based on a pseudo-intellectual arthouse novel that not many people actually like? tom hanks and halle berry staring?
that might've worked 10-15 years ago but not now. and i rated agent smith apparently just playing agent smith again.
i was about to start screaming abuse about crap films based on amazing books but that actually looks really good. i shall replace my monocle post haste
I've not read the book, but I have read mentions that it is 'unfilmable'
Any thoughts on the trailer from people who have read the book?
To be fair (and I haven't read the book) but that looks like it could be a good watch. I certainly want to see it from that trailer although I do worry that there was a lot in that trailer though.
