Just got back from a press screening of Dark Knight Rises, few thoughts...
fucking EPIC. awesome, quite overpowering at times. It clocks in at 2:45 but manages to keep up the pace throughout. Plenty of really well-done Nolan twists, very much intertwined with Batman Begins but all in all a very satisfying conclusion to the whole trilogy. Bane is a proper fucking hard nut, Hardy done a great job considering all he could use is body language and his eyes. His voice is a bit comical to start with but you get used to it quickly. Caine is exceptional, probably the standout performance even though he doesn't get much screen time.
On a negative note, Zimmer's score is a bit relentless, literally never stops and at some points is so loud it's hard to hear the dialog. GO see it though, standard, it's fucking great.

Agree with this completely, started to jar a bit after a while. Apart from that though, I think it's the best film in the series, gonna go see it again soon.
meh. It's ok. Not the best war film ever. More a Michael J Fox vehicle. You could watch worse things but it's not really anything too memorable. imo.
I thought that the first time I watched it but I bought the extended version and its actually pretty good imo. I only really enjoyed it having understood that it was a true story and reading up on the blokey a bit. Its def not the worst film out there but if you have an interest in the Vietnam war as a whole and the effect it had on the soldiers that fought it then its def worth a watch
batman was very good i thought...a most satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, drawing together all the themes from the previous two and taking them to their logical conclusions. bane and catwoman worked very well, and joseph gordon levitt is excellent.
having said that, there are problems. some of dialogue is woeful, you struggle to hear what bane's saying at times, and there are some very big coincidences that drive the plot forward at times. i also was 50/50 on the ending...i'm sure nolan wanted a more ambiguous 'inception'-esque ending but the studio insisted on this one...
overall, 4/5 - not as good as the first two, but better than most films you'll see this year
i reckon he probably heard a few people giving a few bad reviews to comic book films and he couldn't handle it. Not exactly the best way to take his frustrations out with the world, though obviously I can't see any already sane person going to see it because they want to be the joker.
Watched a few in the past week all of which have been very well made but none have really blown my socks off.
Haywire
It's alright, the fighty woman was pretty good in it. The entire cast is great except Ewan McGregor who is almost always shit when he plays parts with an american accent. He needs to fuck off back to Scotland and let Danny Boyle make Porno. Back to the film, the plot wasn't too amazing, clearly trying to do a Bourne. All the fight scene were very well done. 7/10
Contraband
Solid Marky Mark film again with a good cast. Story is good enough with a few twists and turns along the way but nothing you haven't seen before. Kate Beckinsale was surprisingly good in it I thought, would love to see her get some more meaty roles rather than all the action stuff. 7/10
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (US Version)
Normally with American remakes you'd tell people to check out the original foreign language version as it would be superior, but not in this case. David Fincher does a great job. All the cast is great, Daniel Craig does a good job of not being too Bondy and Rooney Mara plays Lisbeth just as well as Noomi Rapace did, if not better. I hope they shoot the other 2 books as the Swedish films of them are quite weak imo. 7/10
Twisted film, keeps you guessing the whole time and makes for quite uncomfortable viewing. Ellen Page is a good actress but can get a bit jarring though.
As a big fan of the books, I thought they really made an effort to stick to the original story, despite it being so long winded, and that's pretty damn commendable. I really enjoyed it. I didn't really understand why they changed that slight detail about the ending. Probably just time and budget really, but it did make things a bit surreal.
Watched Warrior last night. Best film I have seen for a while, Hardy was class in it and it had some of the best (in a ring) fight scenes for time. Probably going back to Rocky or something.
Great back stories for the central characters, great action, and I was really feeling / rooting for the leads but in different ways.
