yeah i'm very intrigued by 'cabin in the woods' too, out in a couple of weeks i think?

i watched 'the lincoln lawyer' last night and really enjoyed it, but then i'm generally a sucker for legal thrillers and bongos, so combine the two and i'm in easy-watching heaven

Down Terrace

It was pretty relentlessly depressing and I'm not really sure what the point of it was or what any of it meant. Which is kind of how I felt when I finished Kill List (made by the same director) except in that case I was interested and wanted to find out the answers.

Suspiria

Got fed up with the shit dialogue, shit acting and weird plot and skipped through the last 20 minutes. Isn't this supposed to be some sort of horror classic? I don't think I 'got' it (or maybe it is just fucking stupid).

I did stop half way through and check online that I was watching the original version but it seems it was filmed silently and then dubbed in dozens of languages so there isn't really a true 'original' language. Either way, it wasn't for me I don't think. Bright colours and red paint do not a scary film make.

Taken is the best action film since the 90s golden age

80s was the action film golden age surely?

Anyway, I'm gonna give Taken a watch now on the basis of your post and report back on my findings. I expect results.

Taken is really entertaining. I did find it confusing why the fuck he would want to rescue such a whiney little brat tho

lol she is an annoying bitch, even more annoying when you realise that EVERY time she is on screen, she runs, either into or out of shot. Mate pointed this out to me and now it's become a focal point of the film

Hmm I think there's some overlap between the two decades tbh, it's debatable. But what isn't debatable is that the good action film these days is pretty much a forgotten artform.

Yeah on second thought it defo is the 80s - Die Hard, T1, Predator; that's the action film holy trinity right there.
But there were some gooduns in the 90s too, The Rock, Face Off, Die Hard 3 etc

Not at all bothered about Tarantino. Fame went to his head, last good film he made was Jackie Brown.

Inglourious > Jackie Brown. Easy.
Never been able to get into Jackie Brown.

I've not seen Basterds, would watch it if it was on but im not that fussed. Just looked silly. Jackie Brown was brilliant. First Tarrantino film with some depth to the characters beyond cool dialogue - think its an adaptation of a novel though, so thats probably why. Looked like he was growing up a bit and becoming even better than his 90s hay day, then kill bill came out

No. For the fit stoner chick alone.

Inglorious has been better than anything after jackie brown though, but it's far too hollywood to have any significance.
