Having a Sunday evening grand slam final is a real treat, so much better than having it on Monday like it's been in recent years

Agreed and also when it inevitably has been Monday until the roof did it not start at around 2am?

This could be a brilliant final, I can see this going to 5 sets.

Wawrinka is just a mind fuck for Djokovic. Same way Djokovic had Nadal's number & Nadal had Federer.

Stan the man, what a legend. Most inconsistent guy in the top 10, but when he's on he is a monster. Who'dve thought he'd end up being Djokovic's achilles heel.

It's strange though because Murray almost always makes short work of Wawrinka, yet Wawrinka can boss Djokovic around like that.

As good as Wawrinka is, I can't help thinking he's been a little bit lucky this tournament as Murray and Djok have both been totally worn out from such a long year.

if i could have sex with a tennis shot it'd be stan's backhand. missed the match but really pleased for the guy. he's only wimbledon away from a grand slam now!

Choosing Wawrinka's over Fed's is like choosing Kelly Rowland over Beyoncé though. They're both sexy as fuck, but one is clearly far more boner-inducing. imo.

djokovic had 3 walkovers and went out early in the olympics so has had a comparatively relaxing time lately

Well I think the fact he went out early in the Olympics and Wimbledon shows how knackered he is. Probably would have gone out early in this tournament if he didn't keep getting walkovers as well. He looked knackered and definitely not 100% yesterday.

Maybe it's a mental thing. Got that milestone of holding all four GS titles at once and might have let himself relax a bit.

you're right, fed's is effortlessly beautiful... something about stan's though for me

i'd throw gasquet's into the mix as well tbh

Federer takes almost 3 months off and wins a tournament on his comeback, he'll probably win Wimbledon too. The men's game needs some new stars, Thiem & Zverev need to step up.

thiem looked pretty good in paris. hits the ball so fucking hard.

it's not just the ability that's lacking a bit in the next generation though, it's the personality. the way they look, act and play kind of all merges into one for me at the moment

looking forward to wimbledon but fucking annoyed that it's running at the same time as the world cup. why not just start the day after the WC final?!

French Open was the first slam I didn't see any of since I was a little kid, it was just so obvious Nadal would win with ease without Federer. The decline of Murray and Djokovic has been really bad for tennis, I wish Federer played through the clay season, I think he could and would have won at least a couple of tournaments.

Not long until Wimbledon, can't see past Federer yet again. As much as I love them it isn't very good for tennis that no one is stepping up to challenge them, if they both retired tomorrow then who is there to get excited about watching? As it stands they will probably both dominate for as long as they like.

Re: RE: WIMBLEDON 2018/06/22 10:29:27 (permalink)
Tbh I’m happy with Federer and Nadal still winning. Obviously it speaks to the quality of the chasing pack, and lets face it none of the current youngsters are even in the same league as Roger and Rafa. But some young buck will come along eventually who will blow everyone away. Until then we have Thiem who will probably win a few French once Rafa retires, and whoever else on the other surfaces.

In fact I’d love to see some old school style specialist players start to dominate certain surfaces, because it’d make the tennis more interesting to watch than the current baseline grinding style that’s become so popular. Watch some Gustavo Kuerten or Sampras highlights and they played a totally different style but excelled at it, I miss that diversity.

Murray looks done in tennis, probably his last tournament in Australia. Never liked the guy much but give him respect for what he achieved and always hate to see someone leave a sport through injury.

Sad news, seems like his body fell apart as soon as he was world number 1. He's had a great career though. Can't see him getting further than the first round next week.

One of the greatest British sportsmen of all time. He'd have won way more Grand Slams in another era.

Properly gutted about this. Knew it was possible he might never return after a hip injury but always thought he would eventually, even if he never got back to his best.

I've been obsessed with tennis since I was tiny. Used to buzz off the Henman matches when I was a kid and seeing Murray actually win slams have been some of my favourite sports memories.

Part of me feels like I should be happy he's achieved so much already, but when he got to no.1 I thought he was gona go on a Djok style run of dominance and the exact fuckin opposite happened. Actual sadness that this is the end.

Crazy that Murray is calling it before Nadal who I always picked to retire early

All the best to Murray in his life after tennis, good bloke with plenty to offer outside of being a pro sportsman
