Yeah I've seen that. Its good, I have no skill like that to do it unfortunately, but some custom paint and a few little bespoke touches here n there will suffice

So I continued to fiddle last night before the footy, I think I've established that the problem lies with the tone arm not the RCA, which is more expensive than I wanted to pay, but life goes on. Gonna order some parts next week, a new tonearm and RCA cable I think.

Some more pics of dismantled parts and what not.

Tonearm and housing

The workings were filthy and the height adjustment mechanism was locked, so i took that to bits, freed it up and cleaned it as best i could. Dont look too bad.

The top shell without the tonearm. oooooh.

Rubber base, inner weight/support and outer shell.

So far its been plain sailing, all I've done though is dismantle them and put them back together. Like all good things, its a simple design, tonearm and output module, On/Off Start/Stop and speed module attached to the motor, and the pitch section.

Loads of screws but it looks to be easy to replace/change things. Parts are easy enough to come across it seems, most record shops sell the common things and specialists have all the sundry bits and bobs.

Right managed to fix 2nd decks problem of jumping halfway through playing a tune. It turns out when they were serviced the pivot screws on the gimble were too tight preventing free movement of the tonearm, so some dismantling later....

This shows the gimble mechanism that holds the tonearm steady while allowing it to have 2 axis's movement.

I've removed the pivot screws to separate the mechanism and give everything a bit of a clean. The spastic that serviced these for HMV mangled them, all the screws on the underside were either cross threaded or not properly screwed in. Grr

This is the centre pin that prevents the tonearm moving too far, inside are two buffers either side to stop excessive movement.

I noticed that this one was filthy inside, I unscrewed the motor case cover and vaccuumed it. At some point I'm gonna have take all this stuff out to get the metal case powder coated.

And now it works perfectly. Guess the record :D

Thanks to Virak at www.vinylengine.com I have a 'how to' guide on removing the zero pitch click.

http://info.bergenteknomafia.com/tech/1200pitch/

I'm going to have a crack at it in the next few days after I've got some exams outta the way, if it works it'll save me some money and hassle of fitting MK3D pitch controls, if not, I've not lost anything and will just replace them as originally planned.

My brother works there. Its unlikely they'll sell anything like that if they have it, its a head office decision.

If your gonna get em sprayed Id get a professional to do it!

Technics are quite tricky, the top is also the main body of the deck so you have to pull it completely to pieces really.

Lucky I know a professional powder coater then isnt it?

I wanted the technical layouts to make sure I can put them back together properly, it doesn't look that complicated from what I've seen.

Still at these prices, if it fucks up I lose nothing

Shroomy - I looked at those things once before, they're awful.

I tried to take one of my decks apart once, still haven't managed to piece it back together properly, about a million screws! DON'T DO IT MAN!!

'Zactly, I have nothing to lose really by doing this.

Que - Clear perspex would be great, but being able to machine the cases is quite far beyond my abilities. If I had the money I'd pay someone to do it though, and light them up from the inside.

I'm toying with the idea of RGB LED's so I can change the colour of the lights according to certain parameters.....

you should make it so that when you move the pitch to +6 the platter flashes red

we are in gabba territory now biatch!

my girlfriend does graphics art/etc i have set her the task of comming up with a design

would it need to be special paint anybody??

also what did the german lad do to his platter rim?? it looked shit then all of a sudden it looked pretty good!!

Well I have a friend that sprays things for a living, so he'll be doing the work for me, however I'm yet to have a colour scheme or maybe a graphic, so I'm definately interested in what your girlfriend can come up with.

Well the idea was that the colour would change based on the speed of the platter/position of the pitch, moving from blue through to red or something. Really depends on how easy it is to make something like that, and how expensive it would be.

The German guy, Kaype, brushed the black paint off, and then painted it white.

if you're gonna do a job, might as well do it properly.

I have some ideas about paint, but with all things, its not going to appeal to everyone once its finished
