yeah, i actually quite like the episode, but he makes some interesting points about the characters and the relationship the show had with its audience

i think 'Simpson Tide' in series 9 is the last proper classic episode... the odd bit of gold afterwards though

i think other factors in the decline are: the general flanderisation of characters, the turnover of writers, the move away from social commentary, the increase/reliance on guest voices, and also just the general relatability of the stories... e.g. everyone could empathise with lisa getting an F and thinking about cheating, but who can relate to bart hanging out with 50 cent and becoming a pop star?!

Agree with what you're saying in general.

The remaining episodes in Season 9 (below) are all excellent, with those in bold true classics imo.

The Trouble with Trillions
Girly Edition
Trash of the Titans
King of the Hill
Lost Our Lisa
Natural Born Kissers

fully agree here. the beauty of the simpsons was, imo, it was 'generic' and everyone could relate to it. it got more and more far fetched as it went on and lost the kind of simple every day charm it had at the beginning.

a thing that really bugged me was the the apple logo being everywhere in later seasons. wtf was that about? were they secretly sponsored by apple or something? really was quite prominent in a lot of eps, mapple this, mapple that etc. weird

the ricky gervais/wife swap episode was a real low point imo, and the one with katy perry in the intro

season 2-8 - golden age
9-12 - still pretty good tbh, more wheat than chaff
13-19 - big slide in quality, few good eps but not a lot
20 onwards - this was new intro sequence which really marked the end of the simpsons imo. literally nothing worth watching from here on

Overall I agree but I think 9 can be separated from 10-12. 9 is only just below the golden age, whereas 10-12 are a bit further away. The colours seem to change around 10 as well. Is that when they started colouring digitally?

That was Johnny Calhoun with "Gonna Find Me a Genie With a Magic Bikini"

Johnny Calhoun's next record was a spoken-word album of his right-wing political views.
It kinda killed his career.

If you can tell me the name of that album call our contest line now.

I KNOW THAT

HELLO THIS IS HOMER SIMPSON
Homer, can you name that title?

Heh. Just watched that one myself.

Kent Brockman: Now, over the years, a newsman learns a number of things that for one reason or another, he just cannot report. Doesn't seem to matter now, so... the following people are gay.

Marge Simpson: Turn it off!

Homer: [copying down the list quickly] Just a second...

I'll keep it short and sweet. Family, religion, friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business. When opportunity knocks, you don't want to be driving to a maternity hospital or sitting in some phony-baloney church. Or SYNAGOGUE.
