Status: offline 		First half of the film is one of my favourites. The writers must have been creasing themselves coming up with some of those lines. Left it at my x's ages ago, this thread is making me want to buy another copy.

He was a drill sergeant originally. He's pretty much just playing himself and then went on to play similar roles.

Status: offline 		Apparently he made a tape for Kubrick to get the part (I think he was originally an advisor) which involved him screaming abuse for 15 minutes non-stop while being pelted with tennis balls.

I always assumed he was ad-libing a lot of what he said but after reading the book its based on (The Short Timers) he only changed/added a few things. Still one of my favorite roles tho, he was made for that part!
