anders -> How to make this sound? (23/3/2012 9:52:13 PM)

Hi!

I can start by saying that I am rather new to DnB, at least when it comes to producing... And I am also a sound geek so I am just asking this also because I am curious to know. ;)

So, my question is if you have any tips on how to achieve that typical DnB sound where there is a bass line that kindof oscillates in a rhythmic way? Do you see what I mean? This could be an example:
http://download.breakbeat.co.uk/lpsepsartists/brockieandedsolo/representschasestatusremix.aspx

Do you use a synth/VSTi with a built-in effect? or do you sample the bass line first and put on the effect afterwards in a sampler? Or... in another way?

all the best,
Anders

Post a youtube link, it's probably alot of processing. First, try detuning a couple of saw waves and play with splitting the frequencies. Distort the mids, phase and reverb the high end and that's a basic start. What software are you using?

STIMPY -> RE: [Deleted] (24/3/2012 7:38:40 AM)

you can do it either way

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean, sort-of. Do you have any tips on VSTi:s and effects that could be a good start to accomplish what you described?
The software I use is mainly Orion by Synapse Audio.

@STIMPY Ok. So, I'll try both then. :)

You need a wangulator.

*Missrepresent* -> RE: [Deleted] (24/3/2012 10:13:16 PM)

On a more serious note.

Camelphat is something I love. Sausage fattner as well.

STIMPY -> RE: [Deleted] (24/3/2012 11:48:44 PM)

what have either of those plugins got to do with wobbly modulated lfos?

I tried Camelphat a few years ago but never tend to use it very much. Maybe I should give it a go.
The Sausage was new to me and I'll check it out.
Thanks.

Maybe you should look up wangulating. You might enjoy it. Or lighten up.

STIMPY -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 12:27:34 PM)

Maybe you should read threads before you reply in them, wisen up.

*Missrepresent* -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 1:12:15 PM)

I did thanks.

STIMPY -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 1:24:49 PM)

Well then I refer you to my earlier question.

Ascension -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 1:34:45 PM)

If you're using Logic then the Ensemble plug in is a pretty easy way to get some basic movement and modulation into a bass line.

You will get the distortion and filter effects required.

Happy now? [8|]

STIMPY -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 3:10:02 PM)

You can't make a bassline wobble with sausage fattener. You might be able to with Camelphat but it's not really what you's use it for, it's more of a distortion plugin than anything.

*Missrepresent* -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 4:33:45 PM)

No. It's exactly the kind of thing you use it for, especially if you want quick easy results.

LFO is the basic answer. But expanding on that, the processing that bassline has is filters and distortion.

Camelphat will in itself give similar effects on its own though hence why I said it. [8|] But as camelphat can lose frequencies you can add back in with fattner.

And most of that bassline is distorted and filtered which is exactly what camelphat does [8|]

Seems like he is constantly on the wind up?

L.S.B -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 5:15:34 PM)

you can use camelphat for this, basically you can use anything that assigns an LFO to a filter (which camelphat will let you do)

or any filter if you want to draw in the automation instead of LFO.

STIMPY -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 5:23:08 PM)

Maybe you needed to explain all that in the first place Rep

anders -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 7:07:45 PM)

Thanks for the replies. Very interesting discussion.

So maybe Camelphat is a good start to get the 'wobbly' sound and then put on some Sausage to adjust the frequency.
I'll tweak around and see what I'll end up with. Something new and unique I hope. :)

Thanks for taking time to help me.

Why?

Just trust me a little more when I say something instead of cross examining me like I don't know what i'm on about [;)]

STIMPY -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 11:14:58 PM)

Because it wasn't apparent what you were suggesting.

Mr Cunt -> RE: [Deleted] (26/3/2012 11:25:26 PM)

Stimpy in 'questioning Rep's sausage' shocker.

I Googled Wangulator and these appeared lol!

*Missrepresent* -> RE: [Deleted] (30/3/2012 7:38:35 PM)

I can't believe you actually googled it.
